I write because not only because I am required to, but also because my grades are quite reliant on it. Since a small child I haven’t enjoyed writing, maybe it was because I was never natural at it, or maybe because I never understood all the elements of grammar. But ever since I started attending high school my confidence in my writing has gone up. I have even started to enjoy writing about some things. I really prefer writing about things that I want to write about though. Writing essays in class are boring to me, but writing Journalism projects are interesting to me because I get to choose what I want to write about and what I want to describe. For me that is why I write. I write because I want to make an interesting work for other people to enjoy.

I hope that you find opportunities to write in the ways that you are “starting to enjoy” in the context of our class. I think there are many kinds of writing that are appropriate for school, and it’s important to become proficient with all of them. Meanwhile, let’s try to have some fun with writing. Maybe this is a good start!
